We spent a lot of time travelling by becak (bay-chuck) around Jogja. Our hotel was at least a 15 minute ride from downtown and these poor guys usually only made 50 cents for the trip. We did feel so bad on one trip as our driver had to push us-welter weights up hill, so we doubled his payment and made him very happy:)
