Jogjakarta: The cultural capital of Java

Oh dear....I can't even explain in words the story behind this photo, except to say that these are the famous Indonesian shadow puppets. We went to see a performance that lasted 2 HOURS!!!! and was performed entirely in the Javanese language. There was one puppetier who did all the "voices" and an Indonesian 'orchestra' to accompany him. Snooze-fest! The crazy thing is that in 2 hours we only saw Act 1 out of 7 Acts!! To see it all you need to come back all week. We would have walked out after 30 minutes, but since we were their only audience, we kind of felt bad for them. In the end they turned around and gave us an applause?! I guess they aren't used to such dedicated fans?!!
