Day 2: The Adventure Continues

Becky and the water buffalo! Yes, for all those Flintstone or Veggie Tale fans, a water buffalo really does exist and it looks like this! They are used here in Indo to help with the rice planting and harvest.

One of these things is not like the other....one of these things does not belong....hmmm not to hard to spot the odd ball: it's the female bule (Indonesian for white foreigner) wearing street clothes. I felt like I successfully cracked into the boys club and gained their respect and comarderie. Mark and I have even been invited to join them for their regular weekend rides!

This gives you an idea of how winding and steep some of our roads were! This one was paved and therefore much nicer to ride on. Many others were rocks, which were much scarier for controlling your bike. You can see all the people walking up the hill, as this was 40km+ into the 60km ride.....I actually got 3/4 of the way up this particular hill before I lost momentum and ran out of steam.

Ah, my "hey Mom, I survived 'cause I wore a bike helmet' photo!!! So with only 8 km to go I fell off my bike going down the aforementioned steep, bumpy road and did a complete somersault before landing on my back staring up at the sky. The 3 bikers behind me dropped their bikes to run over to see if I was okay....they were very sweet. They tried to convince me to ride in the support van for the rest of the trip, but there was only 8km left and since I had no broken bones I figured I was good to go 'til the end:) Go big or go home!!!
