Nate's First European Adventure

Nathan experienced his first time overseas this summer, when he joined Carolyn and me to backpack around Italy. This picture has an hour long story to go with it, but it captures the end of the first stage of his trip. Basically due to a cheap flight booking and a sister who knew he could handle a challenge, he ended up flying into Heathrow (London) and transferring across the city to Stansted....then flying into a 'Flintstone' airport in "Frankfurt" Germany and buying a Eurail pass only to jigjog all around southern Germany to Munich where he was to board a train to Salzburg, Austria. Needless-to-say, there were a few bumps in the plan and he ended up spending the night in Munich with Philippa (our German sister). For a few hours he was MIA and I was afraid he was so overwhelmed that he was curled up in fetal position at some train station in Stuttgart?! Carolyn and I were staying in a hostel in Salzburg during this whole saga and these two girls were our Irish roommates....they were HILARIOUS and after hearing all about Nate and his travel adventures, they decided to come meet him at the train station.

I knew Nate would enjoy himself, but I had no idea that he would love every aspect of it so much!! He was a great travel buddy....he never complained about all the walking and was generous to help with my heavy backpack when I couldn't bear it anymore. As Carolyn and I planned all the trip details, we really weren't sure what Nate would think about visiting so many art galleries....in the end he enjoyed them more that we did. There were many exhibits that we had to drag him out of....he is definitely a 'Renaissance Man'...who knew? Thanks for a great time together Nate! I would travel with you anywhere, anytime:)
